Having an impressive resume is all good and well, sure, but it’s even better if you have a body of work to show for it. While the resume shows your potential, a portfolio shows what you can really do.
In choosing your portfolio, prioritize the work that you feel best reflects your capabilities – you don’t need to include ALL your work in your portfolio, just the best of the most recent, or any other samples that you feel have timeless value. You may also opt to put up a website where you can showcase your works (which is most useful for job applications you do online). Better still if you have published (graphics or print) works on the internet so that the employer can verify that they are indeed yours.
